Local Artisan, International Success
Born in Prague, in the Czech Republic, Ivan Hoetzel has been working in wood since his childhood, when his father introduced him to the art of woodworking. After Ivan’s family emigrated to Canada, his interest in working with wood grew into a successful home-building partnership, and in 1986 Ivan realized his dream of creating an artisan furniture-making business which combined his passion for local wood to his love of outdoor living.

Classic Cedar was established in 1986. It's primary markets have been Vancouver and Victoria BC, Canada but with the development of easy and economical shipping, Classic Cedar now services all of North America with major developing markets in Edmonton AL, Calgary AL and Toronto ON. Classic Cedar's garden furniture can be found in some of the west coast's most exclusive resorts, and in private homes throughout Canada and around the world. Now in its fourth decade, Classic Cedar has grown into a thriving family business.

Classic Cedar products are hand-crafted at their rural workshop in Metchosin, B.C., Canada. Classic Cedar has built an international reputation for outstanding quality and value.
