Why Western Red Cedar?

"We will not just grab the first piece off the pile. We take the time to look at each piece; to make sure that grain and colour match. Joinery is mortise and tenon. Screws are counter-sunk and cedar plugged. Each piece is then carefully sanded and fully submerged in Cetol* for a superior primer coat. It means more effort, and there are no short-cuts. These are products I make and sell with confidence."

"We go to trade shows and I listen carefully to what people want. You can always go out and buy the machinery, but it is the design that really counts. For example, Classic Cedar's finely designed backrests of horizontal slats and carefully contoured seats ensure your comfort.
When I design a new piece of furniture, I have three strict rules that I follow: the piece must be structurally strong, pleasing to look at, and above all comfortable to use. That is why I encourage people to sit in my chairs. I know that the fit is right!"
The Man Behind Classic Cedar - Ivan Hoetzel
"I was born in Prague, in the Czech Republic. My Dad wasted no time in exposing me to his love of woodworking. By age six I was carving my own sailboats out of bark and racing them in local creeks and ponds.
We emigrated to Canada when I was eight. Unlike Europe, wood is abundant here. My interest in working with wood as a career choice developed as a young high school student."
With top honours in Secondary School woodworking came a successful home-building partnership and later, a Business Administration Diploma. Then in 1987 came an opportunity to fulfill a dream; to create something different...
